DEB-ID Generation for Distance & Online Education
Important Update for All Learners (ODL & OL Programs)
The University Grants Commission – Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB) has
introduced a revised admission process for all Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and
Online (OL) programs beginning from the October 2024 academic session.
As per the UGC-DEB Public Notice dated 19 August 2024, every learner (excluding
international applicants) must generate a DEB-ID using their
Academic Bank of Credits
(ABC)
ID before enrolling in any ODL or Online program.
At College Vedas, we ensure you complete this mandatory requirement smoothly and
correctly.
What Is a DEB-ID?
A DEB-ID is a unique identification number issued by the UGC-DEB. It connects your academic records, credits, and admission details across universities. Once generated, your DEB-ID remains valid for a lifetime.
What Is ABC?
ABC stands for Academic Bank of Credits.
It is a digital academic credit repository introduced by the Government of India that allows
students to:
- Create a verified academic identity
- Store earned credits digitally
- Transfer credits between recognized institutions
- Move between programs flexibly
- Maintain lifelong academic records
Your ABC ID is required to generate your DEB-ID.
How to Generate Your DEB-ID
1. Visit the UGC-DEB Portal
Go to:
https://deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDeBID
Use your ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) ID to generate your DEB-ID.
2. Don’t Have an ABC ID?
You can create one easily through DigiLocker:
https://www.digilocker.gov.in
Once your DEB-ID is generated, you can proceed with admission through College Vedas.
Important: Without a valid DEB-ID, admission to any Distance or Online program cannot be
granted.
Already Enrolled Students
If you have already taken admission in any ODL/OL program but have not generated or updated your DEB-ID, you must update it through your LMS.
